We are exited to announce that Lucia Braga Nan has joined the BIOCTANE project!
Lucia is an accomplished researcher with a B.Sc. specializing in microbiology and a master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of the Republic in Uruguay. She earned her PhD at the AgroInstitut, Montpellier, with INRAE in Narbonne, France, focusing on the impact of hydrogen addition on microbial communities during anaerobic digestion in in situ biomethanation.
Her postdoctoral work centered on optimizing and coupling biotechnological processes like dark fermentation, anaerobic digestion, and biomethanation for biofuel and bio-based commodity production. Her expertise lies in process engineering, microbial eco-engineering, and microbial metabolism in anaerobic environments.
In BIOCTANE, Lucia contributes to Work Package 1. She focuses on developing efficient bioelectrodes for “polishing” dark fermentation effluents, targeting increased production of propionic acid while converting unwanted byproducts into H2 and CO2. Her work involves the use of microbial electrolysis cells to eco-engineer microbial communities and select electroactive bacteria capable of forming bioelectrodes.
We are excited about the expertise Lucia brings to BIOCTANE as we continue advancing sustainable aviation fuel development. Welcome to the team, Lucia!
