International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On February 12, 2026, Patricia Pizarro took part in the activities celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, delivering an outreach talk to 3rd‑year secondary school students (3º ESO) at IES Victoria Kent (Fuenlabrada).

The talk, titled “Researching to Unlock the Value of Organic Waste” introduced students to how research can transform organic residues into valuable resources, supporting circular economy strategies and more sustainable production routes.

Among the initiatives presented, Patricia highlighted concrete examples of how collaborative R&D is driving progress in waste‑valorisation pathways, including the conversion of biowaste into Sustainable Aviation Fuels – the core focus of the BIOCTANE project.

Her talk aimed to inspire young students to discover the role of research, innovation, and sustainable technologies in shaping a more sustainable future, while simultanously highlighting the importance of female participation in scientific careers. Thank you to IES Victoria Kent for the warm welcome and to the students for their curiosity and engagement.
